Entomology Class with Summer Arts for Youth
Insects are a class of invertebrates within the arthropod
phylum that have a chitinous exoskeleton, a three-part body, three pairs of
jointed legs, compound eyes and one pair of antennae.......This week, I worked with 13 kids aged 7-12 and we collected bugs outside, spiders, and insects. I had a retired entomologist come speak with us about insects and we got all our questions answered and made some fabulous discoveries. We painted and drew our favorites working with watercolor, acrylic, and colored pencil.....

Stepping Stones
We made 138 stepping stones in one day with 275 kindergarteners this week.
They created a design ahead of time and we talked about art in city spaces-then they executed their own with partners. Super success.

The Great Fish Project
Students discovered with me this spring all the types of fish there are in the world. We talked about the amazing things they do and the unique environments they survive. We created our own environments with tempra paint, created some fish of our own, and then added some fish that we used to practice our scissors skills!
Drumming Experience
Students experienced a drum session and the power of different kids of drumming techniques this winter with a unit on Africa and music. The drums were borrowed from Sorensen School and were made in Africa, brought back by an artist in residence.
Self Portraits with Kindergarten
You learn a lot about yourself and others when doing self portraits with kindergarteners! Especially 275 of them. Inspired by real artists the kids went to work armed with oil pastels and watercolor.

The mosaics created in May of 2012 are now hanging at the front entrance to Frenchtown School in Montana. They were designed and created by 80 fifth graders over the course of three weeks with me. We also installed a mosaic in the school with handmade tiles.
